From Nairobi, Kenya; Paul is an oil painter who studied fine arts at Riamukurwe Kihatha University. Utilising heavy brush strokes and often a pallet knife to thickly layer his evocative pieces, Paul is quickly becoming a recognised African, and indeed international artist whose works have travelled far and wide.
Often painting figurative pieces with the subjects being from his locale in Nairobi, Paul’s works focus on the moments of tranquillity and intimacy that are found amongst the rough cityscape and the human condition for him. His loud colour schemes almost have a pixelated quality; a certain richness which Paul juxtaposes with the often dark surrounds. Adept at numerous fine art styles, Paul Ngunjiri also practices in large scale triptychs, sculptural works and abstract flowing pieces.
As an artist Paul Ngunjiri loves to give back to his community, holding regular art workshops for those young and old in Nairobi. His gentle nature can be seen and felt within all his paintings and Market Gallery Prahran is proud to be the first gallery in Australia to be representing this up and coming international artist.
